In light of the coronavirus outbreak, staying home and keeping a safe social distance has never been more important. Luckily, staying in doesn’t mean you can’t stay active. Hundreds of workout apps and virtual classes have opened up free trials for those in self-quarantine. All you need is a smartphone, tablet or computer and the motivation to get moving.
Here are a few fitness apps and programs that can be accessed for free from the safety of your home:
The NTC app offers expertly designed workouts from world-class Nike trainers, from yoga to high-intensity training programs. The Premium version of the app is usually $14.99/month, but Nike is offering free access to its users until further notice.
In place of their in-studio classes, Orangetheory Fitness is sharing a 30-minute home workout every day, no gym equipment required. Plus, you can share your results on social media with the hashtag #OrangetheoryAtHome.
Planet Fitness has also moved their training sessions online with the United We Move campaign, hosting 20-minute Facebook Live at-home workouts every day.
Yoga with Adriene
If yoga is more your style, check out Adriene Mishler’s Youtube channel, Yoga with Adriene. With over 6 million subscribers, Adriene offers free yoga classes and tutorials for people of all skill levels. She even created a playlist of videos called “Yoga for Uncertain Times” specifically in support of viewers practicing social distancing.
Down Dog is another yoga-focused app offering free services. Until May 1st, all the apps in the Down Dog family – Down Dog, Yoga for Beginners, HIIT, Barre, and 7-Minute Workouts – are all completely free of charge. Plus, in response to school closures across the country, Down Dog is extending this free trial until July 1st for all students and teachers K-12 through college.
If you want something higher in intensity, check out Tone it Up. Trainers Katrina Scott and Karena Dawn have a library of hundreds of workouts ranging from 10 to 40 minutes that boost your metabolism and help you stay toned. Their app, normally $14.99/month, is free until April 13th.
Blogilates is a popular YouTube channel run by Cassey Ho, who offers a massive selection of free pilates-style toning classes. She also created a 14-day quarantine workout plan to help you get moving and add structure to your time at home.
If you have a treadmill or stationary bike, the Peloton app offers plenty of running and spinning workouts, boot camps, guided runs and strength training routines. They also offer no-equipment workouts that are accessible to users of any skill level. Typically, the app is $12.99/month, but right now users can score their first 90 days free.
